The Founder

Lieutenant Commander Ahmad Shahrin bin Abu Zarin RMN (Retired) has charted an impressive career journey, ​showcasing expertise in hydrographic surveying and nautical cartography. Currently serving as the Managing ​Director of Nautical Solution Sdn Bhd, Shahrin has accumulated a wealth of experience over more than a decade.

Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Shahrin embarked on his academic and technical journey, obtaining the following ​qualifications:

• Master of Management, Asia Graduate School of Business, UNITAR International University, Malaysia
• Bachelor of Science (Nautical) (Second Class Honours-Upper Division), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
• Graduate Certificate in Hydrographic Survey (Category A) – Best Academic Award, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
• Graduate Certificate in Marine Cartography (Category B), United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, Taunton, England (UK)
• Graduate Certificate in Hydrographic Survey (Category B), Japan Coast Guard, Japan
• UKHO Marine Cartography & Data Processing Training Course, Singapore Maritime Academy

His commitment to continuous learning is evident in his extensive list of technical courses and training programs, ​covering various aspects of hydrographic surveying and cartography.

With a rich academic background, Shahrin transitioned seamlessly into the professional realm, amassing over 20 years of ​experience in the Royal Malaysian Navy. His contributions have been recognized on both national and international fronts. ​His leadership roles extend to being the Lead for the Category B Marine Cartographic Training Course audit by FIG/IHO/ICA ​International Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyor and Nautical Cartographer (IBSC).

His management experiences include leading and managing the National Hydrographic Centre Cartography Team for a ​decade, working closely with Ports/Harbours Authorities and Oil & Gas companies on marine geospatial and safety of ​navigation-related issues. Noteworthy awards include the RMN Excellent Service Award (twice), RMN Innovations Award, ​and National Geospatial Award.

As the Managing Director of Nautical Solution Sdn Bhd, Shahrin continues to contribute to the industry's growth and ​development. He also serves as the Secretary for the National Hydrographic Association, further solidifying his commitment ​to advancing hydrographic and cartographic practices.

In addition to his professional achievements, Shahrin is actively involved in knowledge sharing and education. He ​has developed and delivered programs, including being a Program Developer for the development of the National ​Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) for Cartography. He is also actively involved in developing and teaching the ​Category “B” Marine Cartographic Training (FIG/IHO/ICA) syllabus at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Shahrin's hydrographic survey experience includes multiple surveys for safety of navigation, dredging, seabed investigation, ​and sand mining projects around Malaysian waters. His extensive expertise and leadership continue to drive NAUTICAL ​SOLUTION Sdn Bhd towards excellence in the maritime industry.
